Whiplash (dir. Damien Chazelle) is one of my most inspiring movies. It is a film about a young drummer, played by Miles Teller, and his extremely harsh band teacher, played by J.K Simmons, who puts him through physical and emotional agony to, in a twisted way, help him be the best drummer he can possibly be. Anyone who has a passionate love for an art form can relate to Teller’s character in Whiplash, who finds himself constantly having to explain his love for drumming and jazz to his family as well as prove his talent to others. Achieving any dream is an physical and emotional struggle and Whiplash portrays this perfectly. Watching Whiplash makes me feel like if I try hard enough, I can succeed in anything I put my heart and soul into.
